About: Byawele Jairus Wangusa is a public health specialist and Mastercard Foundation Scholar from Uganda. He will be pursuing an MSc in Global Health Science and Epidemiology at the University of Oxford. His academic journey is driven by a commitment to improving health outcomes and reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases, particularly cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), across sub-Saharan Africa. He graduated with distinction as the top student in his class (undergraduate). His professional experience spans research, humanitarian response, and community health programming. He has served as a research assistant at the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology and RineCynth Advisory Limited. He has also worked with international development agencies including the Lutheran World Federation and WaterAid Uganda, implementing health interventions in refugee and underserved communities. Jairus is passionate about using data and research to inform health policies and interventions that address both infectious and chronic disease burdens in low-resource environments.
